Restaurant of the Month

Ennios, Town Quay Road, Southampton

We stayed at Ennio's early in July to see the arrival and departure of P&O's fleet of seven cruise liners, part of their 175th anniversary celebrations. Ennio's is a truely fantastic Italian restaurant and 'boutique' hotel, positioned almost on the dock-side on Town Quay Road in Southampton. Our corner-located room, 'Venus' had wonderful views to the solent and along the street.

All of the staff (Italian) were wonderfully attentive, chatty and accommodating. The restaurant was full on the night we arrived but we had already booked a window table. The food was very, very good indeed and everyone appeared to be completely satisfied with the service and the food. The "filetto al pepe nero", one of the chef's signature dishes, was outstanding. Aged English fillet stake coated in cracked black pepper and topped with a peppercorn sauce.

We had a long chat with the owner after our two-night stay. Surprisingly this guy is Greek. All the staff were wonderful.

N.B.: According to the owner, and their website Ennio's was voted the best Italian restaurant in Hampshire by "Coriere Della Sera", the number one newspaper of Milan.
