Walk of the Month

Walk of the Month

Osterley House and Park (NT), London, UK

I know, it's been a long time. It's not that we haven't been walking, the lateness is because we haven't really been walking anywhere new. Well now we have.

I had a spare day around Heathrow recently and decided to visit Osterley House, a National Trust property in the quiet suburb of Osterly. The Piccadilly line was undergoing maintenance and so a direct ride into London wasn't possible. So, I decided to take the tube a few stops toward London from Heathrow. Osterley Park is a 10 minute walk from Osterley tube station on the Piccadilly line. The park is vast, the walk to the house from the main gates takes long enough. From the house I ventured out on the long trail which encircles the park, house and grounds. It's a surprisingly wonderful stroll which, for a short part runs alongside the M4 Motorway.

A surprisingly good day out.

The house is also extremely interesting. It is rather simple in shape and does not have a large number of rooms, as you'd normally find in a grand NT house, but the rooms it does have are absolutely stunning. Breathtaking in its opulence.

A truly surprising gem nestled in the suburbs of London.
