Walk of the Month

Walk of the Month

Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire, UK

Westonbirt, near Tetbury in Gloucestershire, is a fabulous place for a long afternoon's walk. It is run by the Forestry Commission and is an historic Victorian landscape. Entry is between £6 and £12 per adult for non-members, depending on the time of year.

There are 2,500 different tree specimens (16,000 in total) through which 17 miles of paths can be found winding their way around the woodland. There are two main forestry sections, the large expanse of "Silk Wood" and the family friendly "Old Arboretum". When visiting it's quite easy to explore both  in a single afternoon. An interactive map with the paths and every significant tree located and numbered is also available. This is a truly fascinating map.

Maybe one day, if we get up early, we'll walk the 17 miles of individual paths, who knows?
