Books About Hong Kong

We've collected a number of books about Hong Kong over the years. You'll find all of them here, novels and written works, with a brief comment. We've supplied the name of the author and book number but unfortunately not all remain in print. If you're interested in 'The Barren Rock' at least one of these may be a good read.

Te Scramble for China'Foreign Devils in the Qing Empire 1832-1914'. Although this book is essentially a history of the growth of China I've included it here because there are several reverences to Hong Kong. Any history of China must include a discussion of Hong Kong.

Guide to Recent ArchitectureAs well as providing information about Hong Kong's architecture, the book's intention is to provoke debate. A neat and compact tiny little book but it's 310 pages are packed with photographs and comments on hundreds of items of architecture and buildings in Hong Kong. You'l find wonderful b/w photographs and comments on every area from Aberdeen to Wanchai.

On Dangerous GroundNot, strictly speaking, a book about Hong Kong, On Dangerous Ground is a novel by Jack Higgins. I've included it here because I've got it and it's based in Hong Kong, set in 1944 and 1993 and is therefore rather neatly placed in the family's history.
